Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed answers for setup, troubleshooting, and platform-specific questions.

Platforms

Does it really work with PS5, Switch, and Xbox?

Yes. OneLimit connects to PlayStation Family Management, Nintendo Switch Online, and Xbox Family Safety to read usage and enforce limits across consoles and Windows PCs alongside your child's iPhone.

Can my kid bypass it?

No app is bypass-proof. But OneLimit uses Apple's ScreenTimeKit (OS-level enforcement) for iPhone, console-native parental controls for PS5/Switch/Xbox, and Microsoft Family Safety for Windows PC. More importantly, one clear limit is harder to argue with than five separate ones.

What devices does my child need?

Your child needs the OneLimit Child app on their iPhone. For PS5, Switch, Xbox, and Windows PC, no app installation is needed - OneLimit connects through PlayStation, Nintendo, and Microsoft's online services.

Troubleshooting

What happens when time runs out?

When your child's daily budget hits zero, all connected devices are locked. On iPhone, apps are blocked via ScreenTimeKit. On PS5, Switch, and Xbox, console-level parental controls are activated. On Windows PC, Microsoft Family Safety enforces the limit.

My child's app isn't updating on time. What should I check?

iOS holds back background updates when a Focus mode is active (Sleep, School Time, Do Not Disturb), when Background App Refresh is off, when Low Power Mode is on, or when the app has been swiped away from the app switcher. On the child's iPhone, open Settings → Focus and add OneLimit Child to the allowed apps list for every active mode, then make sure Settings → General → Background App Refresh is on for OneLimit Child. Ask your child not to swipe the app away from the app switcher - iOS stops delivering background updates until they reopen it.

Privacy & data

Is my family's data safe?

All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We don't monitor content, track location, or sell data. Ever. We collect only what's needed to manage screen time budgets.

Account

What if my child needs more time?

Kids can use "Ask for More Time" to send a request right from their device. Parents approve or deny with a single tap. You can also add bonus time manually or turn on Vacation Mode to pause limits entirely.

Do both parents need the app?

Only one parent needs to set things up. You can invite a co-parent to share the dashboard so both of you can manage limits and see usage data together.

Can I set different limits for weekdays and weekends?

Yes. Create separate schedule profiles for weekdays and weekends with different daily budgets and lockout windows (like bedtime hours).
